Trachinotus falcatus
Identifiers: Silvery. Dark blotch behind pectoral fin. Dark tail, anal dorsal, and pectoral fins.
Habitat: Found inshore regions such as flats, channels, sandy areas, reefs, wrecks. Western Atlantic from Maine to Brazil. Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
Average Lifespan: 23 years or more
Size: 48 inches (122 cm)
Weight: 79 pounds (36 kg)
Food: Mostly crustaceans and mollusks, but will eat insects, crabs, worms and other small animals. They use their mouth to dig of sand to find their prey.
