Identifiers: 9 to 11 brown to black diagonal “tiger stripe” bars. Can change color and pale and darken. Sometimes can be bright red. Juveniles are yellow with a dusky mid-body streak.

Habitat: Reefs and along walls. Western Atlantic: Florida, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico to Brazil
