Identifiers: The front of the body is usually black.The dark area varies greatly covering to mid body or even almost to the tail. Often the pale area has a yellow patch near the belly. Pale fins tend to have a bluish cast. Rarely the colors are reversed.

Habitat: Coral reefs and isolated patches of reef. Western Atlantic and Caribbean.

Interesting Facts: Males are aggressive when guarding a nest. They also make chirping sounds.
